DSS INVESTIGATES ALLEGED SHOOTING OF NEWSPAPER VENDOR BY SPEAKER’S SECURITY AIDE

The Department of State Services has confirmed that the security operative that allegedly shot and killed a newspaper vendor in Abuja on Thursday was one of its personnel in the convoy of the Speaker of the House of Representatives,  Femi Gbajabiamila.

The vendor, Ifeanyi Okereke, died of gunshot injuries after the security personnel allegedly shot him shortly after Gbajabiamila interacted with the group of vendors in Abuja on Thursday evening.

The DSS, in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Dr Peter Afunanya said it has opened detailed investigation into the matter and also confirmed that the officer involved has been withdrawn from the Speaker’s convoy and taken into detention.

“As part of its disciplinary procedures in the instance, he has been taken into detention. In addition, the Service has opened a detailed investigation into the matter. While it pledges to be transparent and accountable in handling this, it is liaising with appropriate authorities to achieve this objective”, the DSS said while also condoling with the family of the late Okereke.
