HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CLEARS THE AIR ON MOTION DEMANDING PANTAMI’S RESIGNATION

Nigeria’s House of Representatives has denied reports in some media report that speaker Femi Gbajabiamila blocked a motion by the House Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, demanding the resignation of the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, over allegations of being sympathetic to some terror groups.

A statement released on Thursday by the spokesperson of the House, Benjamin Kalu, said the “misrepresentation of facts for the sake of sensationalism” necessitated the clarification.

The statement said the allegations against Isa Pantami cannot be debated under order 6 which only applies to legislative privileges and wondered why the minority leader who should know better would make his prayer through a wrong order of the House rules.

The statement said the House is not unaware of the severity of the issue and its nature as a matter of public concern and express readiness to give audience to Elumelu or any other lawmaker to present the issue provided the prayer is sought through proper channels and brought under relevant rules of the House.
