279 out of the 317 schoolgirls kidnapped from the Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Zamfara State on Friday have been released by their abductors.
The girls were released in the early hours of Tuesday and transported to the Government House in Gusau where they were received by Governor Bello Mattawalle at about 4am.
The governor confirmed the news on his Twitter handle in the early hours of the day saying: “Alhamdulillah! It gladdens my heart to announce the release of the abducted students of GGSS Jangebe from captivity. This follows the scaling of several hurdles laid against our efforts. I enjoin all well-meaning Nigerians to rejoice with us as our daughters are now safe.”
