The Nigerian Air Force has released the names of its officers who were killed when one of its aircraft, a Beechcraft KingAir B350i (NAF 201), crashed in Abuja on Sunday.
The aircraft crashed while making a return to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport after reporting an engine failure enroute Minna, Niger State, where it was scheduled to conduct surveillance missions in connection with the concerted efforts to secure the release of the students/staff abducted from the Government Science College Kagara.
Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola, NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, gave the names of the seven officers involved as:
a. Flight Lieutenant Haruna Gadzama (Captain).
b. Flight Lieutenant Henry Piyo (Co-Pilot).
c. Flying Officer Micheal Okpara (Airborne Tactical Observation System (ATOS) Specialist).
d. Warrant Officer Bassey Etim (ATOS Specialist).
e. Flight Sergeant Olasunkanmi Olawunmi (ATOS Specialist).
f. Sergeant Ugochukwu Oluka (ATOS Specialist).
g. Aircraftman Adewale Johnson (Onboard Technician).
Daramola said the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Oladayo Amao, who earlier visited the crash site in company of other Service Chiefs as well as Ministers of Defence and Aviation, has instituted an investigative panel to determine the remote and immediate causes of the accident and said the panel has already started working.
