POLYTECHNIC TEACHERS BEGIN NATIONWIDE STRIKE

Despite last minute moves by the federal government to arrest a proposed strike by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, the teachers’ union executive has directed its members to proceed on industrial action.

The Director, Press in the ministry of education, Ben Goong, had in a statement late on  Monday said the minister, Adamu Adamu will be meeting with ASUP Tuesday (today), to persuade them to step down the intended strike.

But the ministry’s indirect appeal made no impact as ASUP declared a nationwide strike at a briefing, barely an hour before the meeting with government.

President of ASUP, Anderson Ezeibe said Government has failed to honour several agreements reached on the implementation of the intergrated payroll and personnel information system, IPPIS among others.
