The House of Representatives on Thursday called on the Controller-General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, to reinforce the armed squad of the service as part of measures to prevent attacks on correctional facilities across the country.
The House made the call following a motion of urgent public importance raised by a member representing Ihiala Federal Constituency of Anambra State, Ifeanyi Momah, on the need to investigate the incessant jail breaks across the country.
Momah expressed worries over the rising cases of jailbreaks in many parts of Nigeria. He said in the last couple of years, over twenty cases of jail breaks were recorded across the country during which a huge number of inmates were released into the society.
The lawmaker cautioned against treating the development with levity as he called for improvement on the Nigeria prison management system.
The House called for effective collaboration between the federal and state governments to recapture escapees and tackle the ugly trend of unforeseen attacks across the country.
