The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has disclosed the identity of his security aide who shot at and killed an Abuja based newspaper vendor, as Abdullahi Hassan, a personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The newspaper vendor, Ifeanyi Okereke was killed on Thursday at the Federal Secretariat Complex area, Abuja, when the Speaker stopped to exchange pleasantries with the vendors but the DSS operative fatally shot at the vendor.
Gbajabiamila in a statement, he personally signed on Friday, said, the unfortunate death of Ifeanyi Okereke has left him deeply shaken.
He described Okereke as a citizen going about his business, struggling to make a living for himself and his family, “there is no reason for his life to have been taken the way it did”, Gbajabiamila said.
The Speaker said he is ready to interface with the family of the deceased just as he assured that he would push for justice for the victim, adding that the operative, Abdullahi Hassan, has been handed over to the Department of State Security for investigation and appropriate administrative and judicial action. He also said Hassan has been suspended from his convoy.
Gbajabiamila is expected to receive the parents of late Ifeanyi Okereke who he said are already on their way to Abuja. He also said he has committed to the family to support the wife and members of the immediate family left behind by Okereke.
